Active Fiber Systems – TRUMPF Acquires Majority Stake in AFS: Partnership for Growth in the High-Tech Sector

AFS, based in Jena, Thuringia, develops and manufactures ultrashort pulse fiber laser systems that are used primarily in science and research. The company was founded in 2009 as a spin-off of the Fraunhofer IOF Jena and the Institute for Applied Physics at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. In addition to basic research, the areas of application include the generation of extremely short-wave light with high coherence, biomedical imaging and material processing.

It is a leading provider of machine tools for flexible sheet metal processing and of industrial lasers. In 2020/21, the group generated sales of 3.5 billion euros with around 14,800 employees.
