Traditional Business With Two Sites in Germany
The long history of the Hüttemann Group goes back to 1891, when Josef Hüttemann founded the business in Olsberg, North Rhine-Westphalia. Since then, the Hüttemann Group, which specializes in wood as a raw material, spent over 125 years in family ownership. In 2018, the year of the successor transaction that was successfully completed with the assistance of Syntra (formerly sonntag), the group employed around 250 people and generated sales revenues of about EUR 65 million across the “Timber Structure Service”, “Construction” and “Premium Wood” segments. In addition to the headquarters in Olsberg, the company operated an additional, ultra-modern production site in the town of Wismar, in the Mecklenburg region.
The Austrian Mayr-Melnhof Group Takes Over
With the Mayr-Melnhof Timber Group from the Austrian region of Styria, Syntra (formerly sonntag) identified a professional buyer that has fully integrated the traditional German business by adding value. As a result of the takeover in the field of glued-laminated timber, Mayr-Melnhof has therefore directly grown to become Number 1 in Europe. The receiving group enjoyed an ideal market position here even before the takeover and generated total sales revenues of EUR 550 million in fiscal year 2017 in the Sawn Timber and Finishing divisions. In the wake of this transaction, the group was able to record a sharp increase, to the benefit of all stakeholders.
“With the Mayr-Melnhof Group we have found the right partner for our company’s succession plan. The group […] will strategically develop the Hüttemann Group to the benefit of our customers and employees.”
